68th Annual Nags Head Surf Fishing Club Tournament

This surf fishing tournament was started in 1951 by a group a local fishermen as a way to bring more visitors to the area during the off season. It has now grown to include 80 teams with six members each. There are 3 types of teams entered; all male teams, all female teams and mixed teams which must include at least 2 members of the opposite sex.

Invitations go out on March 15 of each year and are sent to every team that fished in the previous year. We have room for more teams to fish so if you are interested sign up to join or contact the Club Secretary, Maryann Maryott at 252-441-1670.

Tournament Headquarters is the Ramada Plaza Resort and Conference Center at Milepost 9 ½ on the Beach Road in Kill Devil Hills.

Wednesday is Registration and Drawing of Fishing Stations with an evening buffet with free beer and a cash bar.

Thursday has a morning and afternoon fishing session and an evening buffet with free beer and a cash bar.

Friday has a morning and afternoon fishing session and then the Awards Ceremony in the evening with a full diner buffet, free beer and cash bar.

All teams get 6 tickets to tickets to the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday buffets.

Third Place Female Team

Most Scoring Fish Male and Female Angler
Largest Scoring Fish Male and Female Angler
Most Points Male and Female Angler
Most Points by a team in each of the four fishing sessions

Fish are scored by length with NC Minimum requirements honored. All fish are released alive back into the ocean. Roaming judges score the fish on the beach. If you would like to be a judge, sign up here.
