1951

The story has been told many times.  It is a timeless story.  Five men gathered in a garage in Nags Head to start a fishing club to draw business to the Outer Banks in the "off season".

Jim Scarborough, Dal Williams, Dan Harris, Major Leo Murphy and Warren Jennette began this little venture which now hosts three annual tournaments and several hundred members.

We no longer have an "off season"  but the tournament remains the highlight of the year for many of us.  For last years event teams came from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina and every corner of North Carolina.

1961

Although female teams participated in the tournament prior to this year.  In 1961 the tournament added a women's category.  From the start, the competing teams were a mix of all male, all female, and co-ed, a theme that continues today.

1965

In 1965, The North Carolina Sea Hags took first place over all.

1975

Angela Rita Mizelle established three world records during the NHSF Tournament: for the largest blue fish taken from the surf weighing 24 pounds 8 ounces, for the twenty pound test she used, and she captured the Women's World Record
